I WONDER......What is was like to be a sheperd

The night was cold and quiet. The stars sparkled in the cloudless sky like night lights.
The sheep huddled together trying to keep warm, while the shepherds
took turns watching the sheep in the field.
Suddenly the dark night sky was split open by a bright light.

I WONDER... if the light was bright as daylight?
I WONDER...how frightened the shepherds and sheep were
at that moment. I can imagine the shepherds hiding their eyes and the sheep baaaing and running in circles.

And an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them.

I WONDER...what the glory of the Lord looks like?

And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people;
for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, and this shall be a sign for you,
you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

I WONDER...if they thought they had misunderstood.
They understood the name Savior, they had been waiting for the Messiah. This news was good news, But manger, had they heard right. God in a manger?

And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among men, with whom He is pleased."
I WONDER if the shepherds were on their faces hearing the angels sing or if they stood in awe, praising God themselves.

Can you imagine?

Slowly the angels must have moved away.
I WONDER...if the shepherds stood in the dark and questioned one another about what they each saw.
until finally they began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us."

I WONDER...if they left their sheep in the field and all of them together went to Bethlehem to find the Savior who was a newborn baby in a stable manger.
I WONDER...if they had to search and search or if they found the baby quickly.

And they came in haste and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
I WONDER...if they bowed low and adored the tiny baby in the manger...their messiah...their savior.

and when they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
I WONDER...if the shepherds told EVERYONE they met about what they had seen and heard.
