I find it fascinating to watch people's behavior in certain situations. Hot Tub behavior falls into this category.I can't say that I spend lots of time in hot tubs, or that I particularly enjoy it, but Art does and I usually find myself there if we are at the health club or staying in a hotel which we did this week.
I think that certain unspoken rules seem to apply when one finds themselves sitting in a bowl of boiling water with strangers.
The way I see it the rules begin when you first enter the hot tub area. It is appropriate to stand back and scout out the pool before you enter.Take this time to determine where you are going to sit. The last thing you want to do is get into someone else s space.
Put your towel close by and quietly and carefully ease into the pool.Be careful not to make any visible response to the heat, no gasping. Get your spot and sit as still as possible. Don't talk unless someone speaks to you first, and then keep it a quick comment, no long conversations they seem to disturb others who are trying to relax.
Try not to make eye contact, the appropriate places to look are at the pool area which is usually close by or keep your eyes on the water bubbling around you.
If the pool stops bubbling, wait until one of the men gets out and turns it back on.They move faster.
Be sure and appear to be enjoying yourself, close your eyes, stretch your muscles, sigh heavily but be careful not to move out of your allotted space.
When you can't stand the heat anymore, be sure to pull your suit down in the back, pull in your stomach and climb out as quickly as possible, grab your towel and wrap up.
Unless you are young and your suit doesn't need pulling down in the rear, then walk slowly up the steps, be sure and shake off excess water on the top step, but if you are a man then neither applies. You just get out, no one cares how you look including you.
Once out then feel free to converse with those you ignored just moments before in the tub.
Okay blogging about this is silly, but I couldn't resist. It's just to predictable, and I had to share my observations:)

It's easier if you don't wear a suit.
You go girl...that's what Art always says:)
