Where Is His Hair?

My little sister is an animal lover, always has been as far back as I can remember. She has 5, yes 5 ferrets. She loves them, babies them, and talks to them, and to moms horror kisses them.
This animal loving stuff is so not me. I don't dislike animals, I just don't love em, so there are times that I don't understand her commitment and passion.
When she told me that she wanted to go to the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology I was not surprised. She will become an animal tech, a much needed career change for her. Seemed right up her alley, a perfect fit I thought.

Last night they had an open house and she asked Mom and I to come check it out.
We did....
We met students, graduates, and teachers they all gave glowing reports about the school.

We saw a surgery in progress, not really, but the fact the dog was not real did not matter to me. I was just fine watching from outside the door.Do fake dogs bleed?
We saw bones, the lab, the library and bookstore (why is that always my favorite? I told myself that I did not need a pink Bel-Rea sweatshirt :)

And last but certainly not least we saw many animals.

Pip and Pop the ferrets where sleeping, Joanne was sending them kisses through the window.

Darryl the snake, he was big. Mom watched from the other side of the room.
"I hate snakes, period," she said over and over.
"But he is so cute," said Joanne.
"Whats cute?," asked Mom.
"See his eyes?"
For the life of me I could not see them. Maybe I was standing to far away. I was with Mom, I felt she needed my support.

My favorite exotic was Anna (said with an accent) the Iguana.
Her walk reminded me of me. She was pretty unsteady toppling from one side to another, but
she had a great long striped tail that seemed to help keep her from falling over as she walked.
I was comfortable watching her from a distance.
Not Joanne she was petting her, and talking to her in a low loving tone.
"How did you know that it was okay to pet an Iguana?" I asked her.
"I don't know don't all animals like to be petted?"
" Hmmm ,maybe so, she seems to respond to you," I said.

There were kitties, bunnies, mice, birds, and Wade the greyhound.
"Wade is scared," said Mom.
"How do you know?" I asked her.
"Look, his tail is between his legs."
"Whoa," she was right I had trouble seeing his skinny tail it was so buried between his skinnier legs.
With compassion, I petted him as we passed by.
"Don't worry we will all be leaving soon, " I assured him.

The very best animal, the very best was the hairless Guinea pig. Seriously...... He was 3 months old and he only had a little bit of white hair on the top of his nose. He was pink all over, with red eyes, and ears that looked like bent trombones.

"When is he going to get his hair?" asked Mom.
"He isn't, he is hairless," said Joanne.
"Are you serious?" "Why?" "He will freeze."

"What is his name?" asked Joanne.
"Ugly," responded mom behind her.
"MOM, what if someone called you ugly," said Joanne.

"God made him this way, he is so unique."
"God forgot to put a coat on him, " said Mom.

"His name is Slim," said the girl holding him.
"Hello Slim," said Joanne petting him as she got face to face with him.

Watching all of this,
I couldn't believe that I forgot my camera. What was I thinking? What a perfect picture that would have been.

"Well, what do you think," asked Joanne as we walked to the car.
"Its perfect for you," said Mom. "I'm so excited for you."
"I agree," I said.
"I can't wait," said Joanne.

So the journey begins..... or at least it begins in January.
I will have to keep you posted.
Did I mention the animals can be adopted.
Wonder what Mom will think if Slim becomes part of the family?

Hairless animals are most definitely ugly.
Some things just are. Like the color orange, for instance. I have never met anyone who's favorite color is orange. Well...I did meet one girl, but she only calls it her favorite color because she feels sorry for it. Her real favorite color is yellow and everyone knows it, but she just won't admit it.

Erin,
I so get that. I hate when fall comes and orange is in...I like pumpkins, but they are orange, and I haven't met to many people that look good in orange. Have you?
This animal was definately so ugly it was cute.

At risk of sounding a bit self centered, I must say that I think that I myself look quite good in orange. But only red-orange. I can't pull off pastel orange, no matter how hard I try.

So ugly it's cute?
I'm not sure if that's possible... Normally, I think ugly animals are ugly, and very few animals are actually cute. I think the exceptions would be Jack and baby horses.

Erin, baby kitties are cute.
some puppies are cute.
Haven't you just looked at an animal that is weird like that and something inside you responds with the thought I suppose you could be cute if I gave you a chance. He had cute ears. Kinda...

I have never had that feeling. Except with my bird and my hamster. Except I got over the hamster pretty fast, because whenever I tried to hold him, he peed on me. I guess some people might think that's cute..

Perhaps I'm too busy sneezing to death that I never got to look closely at cats or dogs. Although now that I think about it, I did have a poster of a bobcat cub once that I actually hung up on my wall.

Finally got my com. up. Ok, 1-Katherine would so be jealous of that job. Although I think she adores her twins now. 2-Abbeys ballet teacher Loves orange. Her purse, clothes and room are in all shades. But she so can pull it off and it suits her. 3-I am sooo glad someone likes to work w/animals because if everyone was like me they would all die from negelet:)

Are ya kiddin?!! These comments are unbelievable. I have seen some pretty ugly people...many more ugly people than ugly animals. At least with animals what you see is what you get and they love you unconditionally. I LOVE the color orange and why would something like this leave someone speechless?

To Whom It May Concern, the above comments were made by Joanne. Katie, thank you for being positive. I appreciate it!
