I found myself pointing at the the candy counter, holding my little sisters hand protectively. She looked up at me with big brown eyes.
"You can pick ten pieces," I told her.
She smiled happily, took her little brown paper bag, and began to fill it with penny candy.
I found myself grabbing my lunch pail off the counter wondering what mom had fixed for my lunch. I liked my red plaid lunch box. I didn't even mind that the milk got a little warm sitting all morning in the matching thermos , it was mine and I could eat everything that mom had packed. No need to share unless I wanted too.
It was Monday and I found myself helping my mom at the kitchen table. Tuesdays were mom's ironing day, but Monday we sprinkled the laundry using an old pop bottle with a sprinkler head filled with tiny holes. Mom would sprinkle , I would fold, putting the wet pieces in a plastic bag. Sometimes mom would let me sprinkle.
I found myself, looking up in reverent awe at the sparkling silver tree, the multicolored wheel sitting on the floor spun quietly around and around turning the tree colors of red and green and blue. I didn't touch it.
I found myself in my grandma's pantry. The shelves were filled with jars of preserves. Grandma gave me a handful of frosting filled wafer cookies from the clear glass container with the silver lid.
"Thank You grandma, these are my favorite."
These memories flooded in as I looked at the crowded tables this weekend.
Saturday, Art and I went to our first consignment auction in Nebraska. Five acres filled with farm stuff, vehicle stuff, house stuff, and just junk stuff. Six auctioneers competed with one another in various corners of the yard.
Barbequed burger smell waifed through the cold air.
People everywhere....
To much fun....
It was our first consignment auction, but won't be our last.
We came home with a few treasures for the shop and lots of nostalgia dancing in my brain.
To much fun.....
